Bury Those Grids!

Azimuth Social Research advisor Aseem Prakash co-published an article in Forbes.com today arguing that electricity grids must be made more resilient. Otherwise, Prakash and co-author Nives Dolsak warned, the public will not support the decarbonization policies required

to address climate change.


"If we are serious about climate justice," Prakash and Dolsak wrote, "we must insist on a resilient electricity grid." Without this, the pair warned, "public support for decarbonization will be undermined."


The best two ways to harden electricity grids, the authors argue, are to bury electrical lines and create local, rather than regional or national, systems. Both methods are costly.
